The 6.4L Ford Power Stroke was introduced in 2008 and continued through 2010. The 08-10 Ford 6.4L was a start of a new generation of emission compliance sanctioned by the EPA. For the first time, these trucks and motors were now equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to eliminate soot and pollutants, along with a newly updated Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems. Overall programming has been updated to run clean and lean to meet modern day emission standards. To help fine tune in the emission regulations, the 6.4L Power Stroke was equipped with twin sequential turbochargers which helped on power and better towing strength. The 6.4L went away from the HPOP like previous years and upgraded to a high pressure, common rail system, backed by a K16 injection pump. Though the K16 was a big step in the right direction, they have their own issues. It is common for K16 pumps to fail and wash out the rest of the fuel lines and injectors with metal fragments which will cause the injectors to fail with it. In the aftermarket world/race applications, the 6.4L became a powerhouse for low cost. Simply installing an exhaust system, cold air intake, and an off road programmer the 6.4L can easily pushout 600+hp and continue to stay reliable. The 08-10 Ford 6.4L came standard with the super reliable 5R110W 5-Speed automatic transmission.
